A great day out at Chester Zoo

What are we going to do today? The sun is shining, the kids are off school on holiday, but what are we going to do to amuse the kids? My recommendation would be to jump into the car and head for Chester Zoo.
Chester Zoo is a great family day out, what ever age your kids are. There are lots of things to do that make it more than just a zoo. (Poetry! Who knew I had it in me?)
• The Fun Ark is a great place for the little live wires to run off some energy, climbing, jumping and generally monkeying about after a long drive in the car. A great opportunity for the parental to recharge the batteries!
• Kids ( and grown ups) love to get their faces painted, and at Chester Zoo you can chose your favourite animal and spend the day enjoying strange looks from people and making yourself jump when you look in the mirror. The kids will love it too, whether they want to be butterflies or tigers.
• At various points around the zoo you’ll find animal talks being given by extremely knowledgeable presenters. The fish feed at the sealion enclosure is especially popular.
• The latest craze at Chester Zoo is pin badge trading. There are trading displays around the zoo and the kids can even swap badges with members of staff if they see a badge that takes their fancy.
• For the creative or slightly less energetic kids there is the Pottery Painting Studio. There are loads of animal models to choose from and paint yourself. It’s a great (but very busy) place to go if the Great British weather does it’s usual trick and the heavens open.
• The newest attraction aimed at children is ‘Plant Hunters Wanted’. A range of fun activities to get children (and adults) interested in the relationships between plants and animals and how each depends on eachother.
So, with so much to see and do there, next time the sun comes out and the kids are bored, jump in the car and head for Chester Zoo. I guarantee they won’t stay bored for long and the peaceful silence of the kids sleeping all the way home in the car after a great day out is more than worth the admission fee.
A family entrance ticket for Chester Zoo costs around £49.50 and includes a donation to support the conservation work that the Zoo carries out. Under 3s get in free. Opening times vary across the seasons but the Zoo itself is open 364 days a year.
