Baby Showers are no longer the province of American Sit Coms. The idea of throwing a party for your expectant best friend, sister or cousin, aunt or even your own daughter is increasingly popular. It is a great opportunity for any mum to be to get together with close friends and family to celebrate the forthcoming birth of their baby.  In fact, baby showers are now so popular that a vast range of baby shower gifts and novelties and even baby shower games has sprung up to help the enthusiastic shower arranger to throw a party to remember.
Baby shower games such as Guess Mum’s Tum, (when guests are invited to guess the expectant mummy’s girth!) and pram shaped piñatas, are fun games to play with guests and the fun can continue with even more novel games!
If you’re having a baby shower try playing My Waters Broke First!  The game is simple and is a great way to start a party off.
•    Freeze miniature plastic babies or mini dummies into ice cubes.
•    Offer each guest one ice cube to float in the drink of their choice.
•    The guest who’s ice cube melts first shouts out ‘my waters broke first!’ and is declared the winner.
On a more sensitive note, hand out promise cards to all of the guests with little envelopes. Each guest writes their own pledge or promise of help down for the new baby (and mummy), from babysitting to helping on Monday lunchtimes or even just promising to be a shoulder to cry on when the pressure is on.  On the other side, guests can write their blessings or wishes for the baby and mum. These are then collected at the end of the party and presented to the mum.  If it isn’t a sentimental affair until that point, it certainly will be when they are read out!
