I have been on annual leave recently. It was the Easter School Holidays and I wanted to enjoy some time off with the Witchlings. It also saved me a small fortune in childcare costs, which at this moment in time I can’t afford.

A work issue meant that I had to go into the office one afternoon to attend a meeting towards the end of my time off.  I could leave Witchling 12 on her own for a few hours, I knew, but Witchling 11 isn’t quite ready for that. Plus the prospect of that pair left alone with eachother is not one I relish. They are at a stage where they fight like cat and dog almost for the sake of it. In addition to this, the temptation of the new trampoline might just have got the better of her.  Adult supervision is most definitely required for that one!

So I arranged with work that I could bring Witchling 11 into the office with me for the afternoon.

I have to admit that I was somewhat nervous of doing this as she is quite the attention seeker and can be a little madam at times, especially when she is bored. So I planned ahead.  Witchling 11 brought in her portable DVD player (thank you Grandmera and Grapper), a selection of books, and a sheaf of drawing paper.  On our arrival to work she had a little tour of where mum works and met a few of my colleagues before being ensconced in the boardroom where she set about drawing pictures and watching her DVDs.

Happily, my office also has a great break room, complete with pool table and MTV. These also kept her amused for a while. She also got to surf the net at my desk, once she had got over initial shyness.

The point of all this is that Witchling 11 was an absolute treasure. She was quiet, and kept herself entertained and made me very proud. So if you have to take your kids to work. Remember to plan ahead with lots of activities for them to be occupied with and snacks are useful too.

Imagine you are planning for a long road trip and you can’t go far wrong.
