Witchling 10 is sick. She is poorly sick with what is either a nasty cold, or the beginning of flu. It started at the weekend as her eyes started to stream and her nose started to bung up. Next the throat was sore and she started to feel ‘gucky’. This is a great word to describe exactly how she feels. So here I am at home, caring for my Witchling, and fretting that there seems to be very little I can do to ease her symptoms.

The symptoms of early flu and a hefty cold are very similar, so look out for

  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Dry Cough
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Blocked/Runny Nose
  • Sore Throat
  • Muscle Aches
  • Vomiting and Diarrhea can occur in some cases.

Treat headaches, muscular aches and fever with a paracetamol suspension suitable for your child’s age.

Sore throats can be eased by lozenges and Witchling 10 is partial to an ice cube or two.

Blocked and runny noses are tricky for children. It’s hard to teach a little person to blow their nose. Stock up on soft tissues (the ones with balm in them are great) and for older children a few dabs of Olbas Oil on a tissue can be very soothing.

New products on the market include vaporizers that will help your child to breathe at night.

Rest and snuggles and plenty of love are also vital medicine for caring for a sick child. So now I’m off to give Witchling 10 a large dose of the above!
