I am shocked and appalled. A Korean man and woman have been arrested after causing the death of their four month old daughter.  The baby was found, dead, when the couple returned from their five hour long gaming sesison at a local internet cafe. They had left her all alone so that they could swan off and play World Of Warcraft, an online roleplaying game.

The child was left in a bedroom and rolled onto her stomach while they were out. She was found suffocated.

The negligent parents excused themselves by saying that they had only meant to be gone for an hours or so but the game took longer on that day.  Their callous disregard for the duty of care they had for their child is shocking. By their own admission this was not the first time that they had left the girl unattended to go and play the game.

What really sickens me, however, is the fact that the child’s grandmother lives upstairs from them and that the whole tragedy could have been averted if they had left their baby in her care.

It annoys me that people immerse themselves in fantasy worlds and withdraw from the real world, neglecting relationships and responsibilities.  But to allow your own child to die for the sake of a stupid game is unbelievable.

The couple are quite rightly facing a criminal trial for causing their daughter’s death. I hope they throw the book at them.
