Happy birthday to me,

Happy birthday to me,

Happy birthday to me eee,

Happy birthday to me.

Yes indeed, it is my 35th birthday today.  Birthdays, when you are a parent, are tricky things.  When your children are very tiny, you can rely upon your partner or their grandparents, or an aunt or uncle, to do the shopping, write the cards, and wrap a suitably thoughtful gift. Well that was my experience up until the last few years.

The Witchlings are 11 and 13 now and have their own allowances and money to manage. Witchling 13 even has her own debit card and two bank accounts!

Sadly, although they have more of their own money now, they do NOT have more thoughtfulness. Yesterday I was asked in sacharin sweet tones if I could please pop to the shops and get them some wrapping paper on my way home from work. Oh and a badge to go in my card. Great.

Now perhaps it is my own fault for not getting them more involved in gift buying for eachother and other family members from an earlier age. But frankly, this is not on! I really have to draw the line at buying my own wrapping paper and badge! I’ll bake my own birthday cake, yes, (there has to be cake according to Witchling 11) but wrapping paper!?
