Losing baby weight is a daunting challenge for any new parent. New mums in the media, such as Katie Holmes and Angelina Jolie seem to spring back to their lithe former figures as though nothing ever happened! For the rest of us mere mortals it is an uphill struggle to fit back into those beloved skinny jeans and the thought of the impending festive season with all it’s party frocks and figure hugging spangly outfits can have us in tears! Yes, baby weight is a drag in more ways than one.
It even happens to new adopters! I didn’t swell to the size of a double decker bus because I was pregnant and had a little person growing inside me. No, I expanded to the size of a house because I comfort ate my way through 12 months of agonised stress as we waited for the right little girls to come our way and to be approved as ’suitable’ parents. Then when the Witchlings finally did arrive, I comfort ate my way through 6 or 7 years of stressing about whether I really was a ’suitable’ parent!
Today, over 6 years later, I am 6 stones heavier than I ought to be and a size 18! It is time for drastic action! Now I don’t have the budget for plastic surgery and I doubt anyone I know is planning a surprise makeover for me. So I am doing it the long way! Last night I took the plunge and joined Slimming World. I’ve done it before (pre Witchlings) and I can only believe that I can do it again!
