When I was wee I had a simple bed and a dark brown chest of drawers in my bedroom. I don’t remember having a wardrobe at all. That changed when I was 10 amd my mum (and granny) bought me a fabulous modern bedroom set. Picture it! Matching cream mdf wardrobes (2 of them if you will!), a chest of drawers and even a desk! Even my old brown chest of drawers got a makeover to match my new modern furniture.

I remember the fun and games my mum had, gluing and screwing the damned stuff together, complete with wooden pegs and stubborn bits of plastic, designed to disguise the screws that pinged everywhere. I, of course, was as helpful as any 10 year old girl can be. I heckled and asked when it would all be finished, and spilled the glue.

I am reminiscing about all this because I am now working on my own children’s bedrooms and am considering furniture for them.

For them, modern furniture is a must. They are very modern kids after all! It has to be space age in style and preferably come in various shades of either pink or black. Might be time to dust off the screwdriver!
