SO, you’ve been up since before dawn running around changing nappies, running baths, shovelling weetabix in the general direction of one or more little people and the ironing still needs doing because the slightly less little people need fresh school uniform and the swimming kit has STILL not materialised.  You have baby drool drying in your hair and your tracky bottoms have that walk around on their own feel about them. Do you dare look in a mirror?
You may be a busy mum, and you may well spend the majority of your time in the company of under 4s but the damage you do now by neglecting your skin will haunt you forever.  Remember when you first met your children’s daddy? You were constantly checking your complexion in the mirror and every ‘date’ you went on was preceded by a frenzied hour of cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, toning, moisturising, and liberal amounts of war paint. I know I was!
Remember that having a baby (or two) changes your skin vastly. The hormonal changes your body goes through can have a big impact on the oiliness of your skin.  What better way to celebrate having an hour off while the little people are out with grandma or napping, than to give kickstart a new skincare routine and give yourself a mummy makeover.
1.    Cleanse your skin thoroughly using upwards massaging motions with your hands. This will remove dirt, oil, baby sick and any other nastiness built up in your pores. If you’ve recently had a baby or are pregnant pay particular attention to your T zone as your skin will probably be more oily than it usually is.
2.    Now slap on a face mask and the traditional slices of cucumber for a decadent 20 minutes of sheer bliss.
3.    Use a tingly toner to close your pores and remove all traces of the cleanser and any weetabix that you might have missed!

4.    Use both hands to smooth on and massage in a good moisturiser. This will improve circulation and will make you feel wonderfully relaxed. Don’t forget to moisturise your neck too.
5.    Remove excess moisturiser with a tissue or cotton wool pad from your T zone.
6.    Sort through your cosmetics and throw away everything that has been open for more than 12 months or has excessive glitter in it!
7.    Put on make up! It may be the middle of a day and you may not be expecting to see another adult all day but trust me! Making the effort for nobody but yourself will make you feel great!
You don’t have to do all this every day. Who has time!? But it’s a lovely way to treat your skin and make yourself feel energised and more like yourself again.
For everyday skincare make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet and are drinking plenty of water. Combine this with a skincare routine that you can commit to (Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise, at least) and you will have beautiful skin, even if you do still have that baby drool in your hair.
