An as yet unidentified woman in California gave birth yesterday to octuplets!

Ultrasounds throughout her pregnancy had confirmed that the mum to be was expecting 7 babies so the large delivery team at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Hospital thought they were well prepared. They had even run several rehearsal runs in anticipation of the big event.

The complex delivery was carried out by caesarean section and took a colossal team of 46 nurses and doctors, and 4 delivery rooms. The relay race from mother to their alloted special care nurses took just 5 minutes! One can only imagine the surprise that ‘baby H’ gave them all.

The tiny, unexpected bundle of joy had hidden until just the right moment and was identified as the lead Doctor suddenly felt a tiny hand.

It is anticipated that the miraculous, and nature defying, octuplets will go through around 4000 nappies every week and since apparently, mum wants to breastfeed all 8 babies, which is a truly daunting task, she will need to consume over 6000 calories every day just to maintain her own body weight.
