Even the most angelic toddler will, at some point, turn into a grizzly beast. One way to beat the grizzles is a change of scenery. Visiting a parent and toddler group or mother and baby group (depending on where you come from) will often have miraculous effects and bring back your toddler’s sunny disposition.
Parent and Toddler groups are great places for children to learn to play with other children and for mums (and dads) to meet.  There are not usually any waiting lists to join these groups and the admission fee is usually minimal.
Parent and Toddler groups will have toys for your toddler to play with (and learn to share!) and there will usually be tea and coffee facilities for parents and carers. There may even be a biscuit or two!
Going to a Parent and Toddler group is a great way to meet other parents who have children the same age as yours. Firm friendships are often made in these groups and other mums going through the same developmental stage with their own toddler can be an invaluable source of advice and support.
It can be a bit daunting to go to a Parent and Toddler group on your own for the first time but remember, no matter who you are, or where you come from, you have something wonderful in common with all the other people in the group. You are the parent or carer of a toddler.  That should give you something to talk about straight away.
Parent and Toddler groups are also a good way for children to begin social networking. Just as you get to know other mums or carers at the group, you will start to learn when children’s birthdays are and could soon be swapping invitations and trotting your little person out to parties like a regular a lister!  You may also find that as you watch the children in your local group grow up together that they end up in the same school, or even the same class.
So if you’re sitting there, with nothing better to do than the mountain of ironing that you are avoiding, or surfing the internet, get out there and find a Parent and Toddler group in your area! You won’t regret it.
