I had to dash away from work early yesterday to get to Witchling 10’s school for her first Year 6 parents evening.
Parents Evening is a vital part of any child’s school life. They are a perfect opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers and to keep your finger on the pulse of what their school days are really like. Any academic or social issues that are presenting problems can be discussed and ways forward can be strategised so that home and school work closely together in the best interests of the child.
It’s no secret that Witchling 10 has not found it easy to fit in to her new primary school. The class she is trying to slot into have known each other pretty much since Reception class and have formed established cliques and have a reputation (according to Mr F) for being a little flighty when it comes to being friends for very long.
The constant bickering and squabbles and playground politics have been getting to Witchling 10 and she has taken a lot to heart that the other girls seem to shrug off. Mr F was refreshingly forthright about all of this and suggested plainly that Witchling 10 might benefit from making some different friends as soon as possible.
Tobes and I have been extremely worried about the impact that all of these social problems may have had on Witchling 10’s performance at school. We needn’t have worried! Academically Witchling 10 is thriving in her new school, and under Mr F’s tutelage is already performing as a solid level 4 in literacy for both reading and writing. For Numeracy she is well on her way and is currently a top level 3. We had chance to go over her school work and her books and were stunned at the progress she is making. I thought my jaw was going to lock with so much grinning!
Witchling 10 is a charming, lively, enthusiastic member of the class who always has her hand up and is bright as a button. Tobes and I are thrilled, and so is Witchling 10.
So tonight we are off to the Chinese Take Away to reap the rewards of our long established incentive scheme. A good parents evening and report = a take away tea. Thank heavens they seem to be growing out of Happy Meals!
Hmmm, Wonder what I’ll have……….
