It is no surprise that the recent statistics show that more are more parents are being sent to jail following their children playing truant.
The government hoped to curb the number of truant children in 1998 by passing new laws that were aimed at getting children off the streets and punishing parents who did not comply with the rules.
The government has spent nearly one billion pounds on the problem and the rate of absenteeism is more now than it was in 1997.
Unfortunately the problem lies at a deeper level than the government anticipated and the whole culture of certain populations need to be addressed to tackle this issue.
