Children’s lives are full of change.  As each child grows and learns more about his or her environment and the world we live in they are faced with some major transitions to make.

  • Home to Nursery
  • Nursery to Primary School
  • Primary School to Secondary School
  • Secondary School to the world of adulthood beyond.

Many children will sail through most of these transitions from one stage to the next with no trouble. But for a lot of children one or all of these transitions can prove to be a difficult time.
Here is part 1 of the Parent Gossip top tips for helping your child through these changes.
Home to Nursery

  • Being part of a large group of children at Nursery School can be daunting, even frightening, for some children, especially children with no brothers or sisters at home to interact with. Reassure your child that they are safe and that there are safe adults around to look after them.
  • Go along to your local Parent and Toddler group so that your child can get used to socialising with other children of the same age.
  • Teach your child the importance of sharing and playing nicely with other children as soon as possible.
  • Help out at Nursery or Playgroup. This way you can get to know your child’s friends as your child gets used to being around other children.
  • Invite children from Nursery to come round for a ‘playdate’. This blurs the boundaries between Home and Nursery and should make your child feel more comfortable.
