Toilet Training Trauma?

Toilet training is a challenge. there are no two ways about it. There is also no sure thing instruction book to tell you (or your errant toddler) how to go about it! It can be one of the most trying times for many households. Getting your little person toilet trained before they go to nursery can place a tremendous amount of pressure on a parent, and this is often passed on as pressure on the child to do things that they may not be ready to do.
Even though toilet training would try the patience of the most saintly parent, it is important to keep in mind that every child is different and will develop at different rates. What one sibling may have been able to accomplish at a nice early age, may take their younger sister or brother 6 months longer to achieve.
While you may be gritting your teeth and struggling with the frustration of trying to get your child out of nappies and on to the toilet, imagine how overwhelming it may be for your little person. During the first 4 years of life a child has to learn a colossal number of life skills, from walking and talking, to feeding themselves, drinking from a cup, and obviously, using the loo. So even if you are tearing your hair out because your little cherub refuses to go near the toilet but is weeing all over the carpet, take a deep breath and remember how much else that little person is having to learn. Give him a break! He’ll get there.
